Meat Apollo e Meat Venus: Xylouris gioca sull’assonanza delle parole inglesi meat (trad.: carne) e meet (trad.: incontrare, conoscere).
Due figure eteree, due divinità greche (il Dio Apollo delle arti e la Dea Venere della bellezza) si presentano l’un l’altra nudi e maestosi nella loro pelle di marmo bianco; non ci vengono però mostrati nella loro figura integra, ma sezionati all’altezza del torso, rivelando che al di sotto della lucida perfezione apparente sono essi stessi di carne.
Orion Kostas sembra invitarci ad andare oltre le apparenze e al tempo stesso ci suggerisce di portare allo scoperto le nostre debolezze carnali in quanto genuini sintomi di umanità.
Meat Apollo and Meat Venus: for the titles of these two works, Xylouris plays with the similar sound of the words ‘Meat’ and ‘Meet’.
Two ethereal figures, two greek deities (Apollo, God of the Arts and Venus, Goddess of Beauty), meet each other, both naked and perfect in their white marble skin. However they are not shown in their full shape, but sectioned at the torso, thus revealing that, below the glossy apparent perfection, they too are made of flesh.
Orion Kostas’s message is to reach beyond the surface, at the same time suggesting us to expose our carnal weaknesses, seen as genuine symptoms of humanity.
